Windows is solid as shit, and anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.

If you want an example of someone working professionally, who has 10s of thousands of dollars invested in shit connected to their computer (let alone software and the rest of the studio which relies on all of this working flawlessly 24 hours a day), knows what they are talking about, has extensive experience with both OSX and Windows, then I can speak to this.

Or my Android phone, as they both work just as well. Also using an iPad for remote control of quite a few pieces of software.4 x Internal Drives (OS, Media, Samples, Video / Backup) OS Drive is Samsung EVO.1 External Drive: eSata (occasional usage). This is what is plugged into my machine at this very moment: I don't trust you on this - because it's total bullshit.

However, these generally cost about as much as an equivalent spec macbookpro, so you may as well buy the mac for the nice hardware and install windows on it. The other option is to buy a specialist 'music' laptop from one of the various companies that build and check custom laptops with guaranteed latency performance. Ideally, if you can get access to the machine you're looking at buying, download and install the PDC latency checker software and check for problems. Your best bet if you need to stick with windows is to check which is a great site that do incredibly detailed reviews of laptops, including the critically important DPC latency checking on most reviews. but other laptops from the same manufacturer or range can have issues. Now an awful lot of windows laptops work fine, and plenty of people will say 'My Asus cxhd6576 is great' etc. It's one of the few ways to guarantee that bit of kit you're buying will work for the intending use. Which is why a lot of people end up stumping up for the Mac. Now if you you've spent a grand on superfast i7 windows laptop that can run crysis 3 in hd but which inexplicapably hiccups an audio stream for a few extra milliseconds every second, you're going to be pretty annoyed. has meant that a lot of laptops that aren't media/music focused can have annoying spikes in latency (despite generally running very quickly) that can cause drop-outs etc.

The vast combinations of chipsets, motherboards, integrated audio, drivers etc. Now historically, volume PC laptops have been a bit of a crapshoot in terms of getting machines that work reliably at low latencies. And if you want to work live, you need low latency. If you want a laptop, presumably you want it to work live.

You probably wont get to read this as it will be down the bottom of the long list of replies, the big danger with PC laptops is the uncertain and variable world of DPC latency. of an older model if you're looking to save money, my MacBook is 5 years old and it still runs the latest OS and Logic and Ableton fine. There's no reason not to get a Apple Refurb. I also have a MacBook and I use that to perform but I wouldn't recommend it if you're mostly recording/producing.

and cost less than a much lower spec MBP, plus you get more screen space. If not, get an iMac, you get much more power for your money. In terms of which Mac to get I would suggest only getting an MBP if you're planning on using it to perform (which I'm guessing you might be if you want to use Ableton). On the flip side a lot of free VSTs you see online are PC only. If you're not planning on working with anyone else or in a studio then it's not a problem. Yes you can export stems and put them in to your preferred DAW but it's not the most flexible option and doesn't allow for editing automation or plug-ins between DAWs. In the studio it means you can get straight down to the music. Being on the same platform as other musicians makes it immensely easier to collaborate. With a Mac you can still use ProTools and Ableton. By this I mean Logic, a lot of people use ProTools as well but with a PC you can't use Logic. I use Mac because it's standard in most music studios I've been to and most of the musicians I've worked with also use Mac. You mentioned it in your post but no-one seems to have followed up on it. I don't know a great deal about PC laptops so I'm just going to add a Mac opinion that I haven't seen here.
